Often the solution of an equation is a single number. Sometimes, it can be 2 or 3 numbers, or there can even be no solution to an equation, but most often you find that an equation has a single solution with is the number that makes the equation true.
In an inequality, the solution is a set of numbers. For example, the solution of an inequality is all numbers greater than 5, or all numbers less than or equal to -2. In each of these cases, there is an infinite number of solutions, not just one solution like it is the case with most equations.
