The best option about what we can infer is:
B. She is a clever chess player.
Explanation:
In "Rules of the Game", a short story by author Amy Tan, the narrator and main character is Waverly Jong. Waverly is the daughter of a couple of Chinese immigrants now living in San Francisco. Waverly happens to be quite a clever young girl. Having learned chess from playing with her brothers, she keeps on learning and practicing until becoming quite a prodigy.
Waverly is not a bad competitor. She understands the game and its possibilities. She is clearly not a poor decision maker, otherwise she would not be a good chess player. She is also not too young for competition. As a matter of fact, she wins one.
The best inference we can make is that she is a clever chess player. A great deal of her cleverness comes from her mother, a wise woman whose ways and culture are different than her daughter's. As Waverly develops as a human being, she realizes she is still not as wise as her mother. She also understands her mother is her biggest competitor in life. But, when it comes to chess, the only thing to say about Waverly is that she is very clever.
