On the scale drawing of a car, the length from bumper to bumper is 6 inches. the car’s actual length, from bumper to bumper, is 16 feet. using i to represent inches and f to represent feet, write two equations to express the rate relationship.

First convert inches to feet,

12 inches is to  1 foot

We have half of this, 6 inches = .5 feet

remember,  12 inches = 1 foot so 6 inches is to half  .5 feet

To make the ratio table, if you double the smaller scale car then you do the same to the large scale car.  If you triple the smaller scale car, then you triple the larger scale car.

for instance:

start with the original ratio scale:

6 inches : 16 feet

so lets cut in half

(half of 6 is 3,  half of 16 is 8)

answer is

3 Inches : 8 Feet

now lets triple:

(6inch x 3 = 18inches:  16 ft x 3 = 48ft

18 inches : 48 feet

and so onremember, whatever you do on one side, you do on the other..
