The number expressed using exponents

This expression can be written in a shorter way using something called exponents. An expression that represents repeated multiplication of the same factor is called a power.The number 5 is called the base, and the number 2 is called the exponent. For example 

2.64 + (-2/9)
= 2.64 + 0.22
= 2.86

- 0.35 + (5/8)
= - 0.35 + 0.625
= 0.59

2.86 + 0.59 = 3.45

3.45 / 4 = 0.8625

Answer (to 2.d.p) = 0.86
