To write 256 in expanded form, break it apart. There is 200, 50, and 6 in 250. Now, add them together. 200 + 50 + 6 = 256

Example:
1356 = 1000+300+50+6

1200 = 1000+200

326   = 300+20+6

15     = 10+5
