What happens to the amplitude of the transverse wave as it travels?

I think the amplitude decreases as the wave goes further away from it's source

Advantages:
-- non-polluting (puts nothing into the atmosphere or environment)
-- non-depleting (we'll never run out of solar energy)
-- no moving parts; relatively low maintenance

Disadvantages:
-- relatively high initial cost for panels and batteries
-- not too practical at high latitudes, or where it's often cloudy
