On September 17, 1787, the final draft of the Constitution of the United States was signed by the Constitutional Convention.
Explanation:
The Articles of the Confederation, the first constitution of the United States of America, were adopted by the Continental Congress in 1777, but only ratified by the states in 1781. The Articles of the Confederation were the foundation of a federal republic where the central government could not enact major public policies without the approval of the states. This led to a central government that had very little effective power, as states could largely ignore its authority. Subsequent calls for a revised constitutional document led to a new Constitutional Convention in May 1787, tasked with drafting a new constitution that gave the central government more power while respecting the sovereignty of the states. The final draft of the new Constitution of the United States of America was signed on September 17, 1787. However, the constitution required to be ratified by at least nine state governments before it entered into force, which didn't happen until it was ratified by New Hampshire in June 21, 1788.
