The American Crisis is a collection of articles written by Thomas Paine during the American Revolutionary War. The pamphlet constitutes Paine’s constant support for an independent and self-governing America through many crisis’s of the Revolutionary War. The first part, written December 23rd, 1776, has a tone of passion and inspiration. There is also a tone of seriousness, as Paine tries to illustrate the situation at hand. He is emphasizing the seriousness behind his passion for encouraging America against the Britain rule, which many people though was tolerable enough for them and that an attempt at gaining independence was incoherent. Many emotions were poured into this writing as Paine related to his people, another technique he used to persuade the soldiers to fight on. “The Crisis” was so well-written and inspiring that it was read to the troops at Valley Forge by George Washington to help motivate them to keep fighting for the independence that was rightfully deserved. Altogether, Thomas Paine had multiple strong tones in “The American Crisis” that helped the soldiers in the Revolutionary War regain the motivation and strength they needed to push themselves to the limits, and to win the independence that Paine was so passionate about.
I hope this helps. I wrote it myself based on research I had done and what I already knew.
