There are four main styles of attachments : secure, anxious-preoccupied, dismissive-avoidant and fearful-avoidant.
People with anxious-preoccupied style of attachment see themselves in a negative and others in a positive way.
They have a big need for approval and they demand attention from people they are intimate with. They glorify and look up to their attachment figures and are horribly upset if the attachment figures ignores them, thinking it's their fault. Because their lack of self esteem, they constantly depend on approval from others and they constantly tell themselves they are not good enough if they don't get it.
About 20% of the population belong to this group. This attachment style stems from early childhood when the child's attachments needs were inconsistently satisfied.
