The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) is administered by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and it is a national survey of carried out in approximately 49,000 to 77,400 households two times in a year in the United States to collect data on the frequent occurrence of crime victimization, including properties and consequences of victimization.
NCVS is used the measure reported and unreported victimization. It is primarily the source of data for crime victimization. It has four primary objectives:
- help in development of detailed information about victims.
- determine the number of crimes not reported to the police.
- determine uniform measures for specific types of crimes.
- Enable comparison between various types and areas.
