the period when the cell is NOT dividing. This is when the cell is preparing to divide. It does this by four steps- Gap 0, Gap 1, S phase, and Gap 2.
Gap 0 is the extended G1 phase. There are no visible changes.
G1 is where the cells increase in size, produce RNA, and synthesize protien. This is also where the G1 checkpoint is. This is where the cell makes sure DNA synthesis is possible.
S Phase is when the synthesis of DNA is being undergone.
G2- Cell grows and protiens are produced. DNA is produced. It is almost ready to divide!
