neurons are able to communicate through electrical impulses for example when a stimulus is detected the receptor cells transfer electrical impulses to the sensory neurons which is passed onto the relay neurons in the central nervous system and relayed to the motor neurons. the motor neurons travel with the electrical impulses which are transferred to the effectors to cause a response.
