Once disease was connected to germs, which are tiny LIVING things, doctors started into looking how to kill them using antibiotics, or how vitamins could help your body fight them off. During the Civil War, a lot of soldiers died from infections. This was because surgeons didn't understand how pathogens (germs) were spread from person to person. They didn't clean utensils after operating, and this caused disease to spread like wild fire.

All have been found in human milk, but by far the most abundant type is IgA, specifically the form known as secretory IgA, which is found in great amounts throughout the gut and respiratory system of adults.
