Lab Partner: Shantal Date: Wednesday September 13, 2017 Introduction:Prior to the lab we learned about proteins and what they are made up of. We learned the monosaccharides are glucose, fructose, and galactose made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. We learned that starch is a polysaccharide and is the short term energy storage in plants.Proteins are made up of amino acids and we have 20 amino acids. Proteins act as structure support in cells, a carrier and channel, are in hormones, and more. Lipids yield more than double the energy carbs but it is harder to access them therefore they are our long term energy storage. They are a major component of the cell membrane (phospholipid bilayer), and act as insulation, and organ protection. They are made up of a glycerol and three fatty acids (triglyceride) Purpose: To identify monosaccharides, starches, proteins, and lipids in unknown samples through laboratory tests. Hypothesis: I think the nutrients in distilled water will be a protein, glucose solution will be a monosaccharide, sucrose solution will be a starch. I think table cream will be a lipid and raw egg will be a lipid. Experimental Design: Adding different solutions to the substances to determine whether it contain a monosaccharide, starch, protein and/ or a lipid. Apparatus:

The bacteria population will show logistic growth: first it will grow exponentially, then it will slow down, and
finally stop growing at the carrying capacity due to increased competition for food and space.
Hope this helps :3
