In compounds, the physical and chemical properties of it is usually very different from those elements from which is formed.
One simple example is the compound Iron(II) Sulphide. It is formed from iron powder and Sulphur powder. For physical properties, iron powder is quite black and Sulphur is yellow. Also, iron powder attracts to magnets. However, in Iron(II) Sulphide, the compund is a brown solid in room temperature and pressure. Also, the solid does not attract magnets. In addition, Iron ii Sulphide gives off completely different new substance when reacting with different substances such as acid.
So, the answer is the second one.
