Outline the course of digestion of the following foods in the mouth, stomach and small intestine of the human digestive system. a. carbohydrates b. proteins c. fats

Absorption of food into the body takes place through a few steps:

1- Food is chewed in the mouth and broken down into smaller pieces with teeth.

2- In the mouth, an enzyme amylase secreted by salivary glands converts carbohydrates into small units such as starch.

3- When food is passed on to the stomach its consists of fats and proteins.

4- In the stomach, gastric acid breaks down the protein molecules with the help of pepsin.  

5- Partially digested food reaches down to the small intestine.

6- In the small intestine, the gall bladder is present that releases bile juice and reduces the size of fat molecules into fatty acids.
