Plants are able to perform this process of photosynthesis because of the possession of a green pigment which they use to capture the energy from sunlight, which they then use to power the breakdown of water molecule (PHOTOLYSIS) in the light stage of photosynthesis. This overall process produces glucose (organic molecule), which they use as a source of fuel.
