: Is the main transporter of heat in the ocean
Explanation:
Oceans have warm salty water on the surface and cold less salty water in the depth and these two regions don’t mix. The ocean currents are mostly driven by winds on the surface. The water at the depth does not get influenced by surface winds but the main driving force is the density differences due to temperature and salt contents. The dense salty waters sink to the bottom while the less salty water floats.
The large scale ocean circulation due to density gradients and freshwater fluxes is thermohaline circulation. The water currents from the Atlantic ocean travels towards the Poles by the wind currents that gets cooled on route and sinks at high latitudes. Due to this, the water is dense and flows into the ocean basin. It transports energy and matter around the globe. This impacts the climate of earth.
On the basis of the above explanation is:
The thermohaline circulation belt- is the main transporter of heat in the ocean
