The model shows endocytosis process. It is an active process i.e. it requires energy from the cell. In endocytosis particles like whole cells or part of cells are engulfed by another cell. Cell membrane plays an important role in this process. It invaginates to form a pocket around the incoming particle. This pocket is pinched off and the particle is contained in the newly formed vacuole from the cell membrane.
Endocytosis can be of two types, phagocytosis and pinocytosis. In phagocytosis, large particles like cells are taken in by the cell. In pinocytosis, cell takes in small solutes dissolved in extracellular fluid.
