The polarity of HCl is due to the greater attraction of the chlorine nucleus for the shared electrons, shape of the molecule and the large differences in electronegativity. A chlorine atom is much more electronegative as a result it doe not share the electron bonding with the hydrogen atoms equally which makes the molecule a polar molecule.  A molecule is considered polar if there is a net dipole resulting from the opposing charges where you have a partial negative charge end and a partial positive charge end in the molecule. Other examples of this type of molecule are water, hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid.
