Can you answer these in the past tense for me. 1. Draw a horizontal pencil line about 1.5 cm from the bottom edge of the chromatography paper.this is origin.
2. Apply the screened methyl orange to the pencil line using the capillary tube as follows.
3. Touch the capillary tube to the surface of the screened methyl orange so that only little is drawn up the tube and apply the dye to the paper using a quick touch.when the spot is dried apply some more of the dye and dry again. The spot should no longer than about 0.5 cm diameter.
4. Pour about 20cm of distilled water into 250cm beaker and cover it with a piece of aluminum foil.place the chromatography paper into the beaker folding it over the edge of the beaker.
5. Allow the water to rise up the paper until it reaches the top of the beaker.
6. Remove the paper from the beaker and dry it in a stream air. mark with a pencil the position of each component and distance the water from the origin(the solvent front).
