2. In recent times, an acute shortage of caregivers such as nurses has become evident in some countries. The myth of the virtues of sacrifice is no longer enough to attract women to
nursing. As an example, the United States, with its large aging population and escalating health
crisis, is so desperate for nurses that elaborate schemes are being hatched to lure nurses from
poor developing nations. One news report states that doctors in Indonesia are returning to
school to learn nursing to improve their chances of migrating to the U.S. There is another
problem too-a shortage of instructors to teach the new crop of would-be nurses. Instructors
can make more money doing the actual nursing than teaching others to do it.
