What Happened: Luke gave Percy a pair or cursed winged sandals, made to drag him into Tartarus. Percy gave the shoes to Grover, knowing he would not be allowed to fly, and when they reached the Underworld, the shoes activated, dragging Grover towards Tartarus. It was sheer luck he survived.
