Adapting Voice. Think of a time you have had to ask for a favor or ask someone for help. Did you beg and plead, or use formal or fancy language to impress them and make your case?

Pick two of the people from the list below. Write each person a note asking for a favor.

Your best friend.
Your favorite teacher.
Your parent or grandparent.
A neighbor that you don't know very well.
Your School Principal.
A local business owner that you've seen on billboards and on TV commercials.
A celebrity.
Your sibling (brother or sister).

Compose a letter requesting the same favor from both people (e.g., a loan, help with a project, a surprise for someone else, a recommendation, etc.).

Remember: You're not sure the person is going to agree to help therefore your purpose is to persuade! Make sure you include convincing reasons for your request!
Adapt your voice to the audience and purpose.
Your letters should be different in expression and language, but similar in context.
