Barter tries to convince the reader that there is beauty in life. all of the similes and metaphors used in the poem illustrate this. "music like a curve of gold," "blue waves whitened on a cliff," "holding wonder like a cup," "one white singing hour of peace" all serve as examples for the beauty that can be found in simple moments and sensations.
