Comparison between King Arthur's legend and Star Wars movies.
King Arthur is a semi-legendary character in the history of Great Britain and a relevant character of medieval European literature. According to the legend, Arthur was the son of the king Uther Pendragon and, as soon as he was born, he was taken away by the wizard and Uther's counselor, Merlin, and raised by the knight Hector, away from the political problems of Camelot and without knowing about his royal origin. After Uther Pendragon died, the chaos took over Camelot and, when Arthur was a young man, there was a prophecy which said that he who could remove Uther's sword from the stone (or anvil) where it was nailed was the real and legitimate king of Camelot. Arthur was the only person who was able to take it out and, after that, he becomes king of Camelot. Under the direction of his mentor, Merlin, Arthur was tested and became a great warrior and a great ruler of the kingdom of Camelot, where he founded the order of the knights of the round table. In the legend, he and his knights fought against invaders, rescued many ladies in danger, and went on quests for magical objects, like the Holy Grail.
The modern movie Star Wars takes many elements from the legend of King Arthur. In the movie, the protagonist, Luke Skywalker, was the son of the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and as soon as he was born he was taken away by Anakin's master, Obi-wan Kenobi, and raised by his uncle away from the political problems of the Empire. Later, when Luke was a young man, Obi-Wan Kenobi gives him his father's lightsaber and starts to train him to become a Jedi knight.
First, we can see the similarities in the protagonist, who is a young man who has no idea about his origin but who is destined to become a great warrior. The common theme here is a journey of self-knowledge and self-discovery.
Second, another important similarity is the mentor (Merlin and Obi-Wan Kenobi), an old and wise man who knows the origin and fate of the protagonist and guides him through his journey to fulfill his destiny.
Third, we can find other similarities in the swords, Excalibur for Arthur and the lightsaber for Luke.
Finally, there are similarities between the knights of the round table and the Jedi knights. Also in the magical objects the protagonists will search throughout the story, the monsters and enemies they will fight, the princesses they will save, and the allies they will find.
