In 1984, Ronald Reagan deregulated children’s television. Four years prior to deregulation, upon taking office, he had famously declared, “Government is not the solution to our problems. Government is the problem.” It is this conservative economic philosophy that continues to justify lax government oversight when it comes to advertising to kids today.
