In a well written response (at least one paragraph of 4-5 sentences), answer the following question. You will be able to use your notes from Part 1 to enhance your answer. Use examples from the text to support your answer. Both memoirs describe men who are put in an impossible situation. In Wiesel’s case, he is imprisoned in a camp where he cannot escape and faces almost certain death daily. In Rusesabagina’s case, he watches people turn on each other due to racial hatred, butchering people they had just days earlier considered friends and neighbors. Reflect upon their stories. Both recollections show ordinary men put in extraordinary situations. What personality or character qualities (either specifically mentioned by the author, or inferred by you as the reader) do the men have that allow them to persevere despite the danger they face? Why were they able to survive when others around them may not have been so fortunate?
