The letter to the editor "I, Too, Have a Dream" shows a common reality in the USA. Prejudice and instability in policies aimed at the security and rights of illegal immigrants, especially those who were born and raised in the country where their parents entered illegally, as is the case with the friend of the letter writer.
During the letter the writer shows her own experience, where she witnessed a highly prejudiced and disrespectful student protest, which called for the deportation of illegal immigrant students. The author states that although she is not an illegal immigrant, her friend was and was quite shaken by the situation.
The author shows that her friend arrived in the USA as a baby and was raised within American culture, not knowing anything about her native country. Deporting and depriving immigrants as she would be immensely cruel, for this reason the author reinforces the need for public policies and government projects that allow immigrants like her friend the freedom to live fully in the only country she knows as home .
The author's objective is to evoke the readers 'critical sense and to point out the importance of charging government projects for evidence of the immigrants' contribution to the country, since the country was built and raised by immigrants and since we are all descendants of immigrants.
