? Prompt What is the Right Balance of Power in Good Government?
The United States Constitution set out six basic principles, which defined in very broad terms how
the newly-formed American government was to be organized and operated. Even as the nation
has grown and changed, these six principles have held steady.
Look at the list below, and think about what each of these principles means to the working of our
government.
Popular Sovereignty: The people are the only source of power.
Limited Government: The government may only do those things that the people have given it
power to do.
Seperation of Powers: Power is distributed among three separate and independent branches of
government
Checks and Balances: Each branch is subject to checks and restraints by other branches.
Judicial Review: the power of a court that determines the constitutionality of a government
action.
