Read the excerpt from the story of my life by helen keller. on the afternoon of that eventful day, i stood on the porch, dumb, expectant. i guessed vaguely from my mother's signs and from the hurrying to and fro in the house that something unusual was about to happen, so i went to the door and waited on the steps. the afternoon sun penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned face. my fingers lingered almost unconsciously on the familiar leaves and blossoms which had just come forth to greet the sweet southern spring. i did not know what the future held of marvel or surprise for me.
which answer choice best describes the imagery in the excerpt?
(a)sensory details appeal to the reader’s sense of hearing.
(b)a metaphor creates a visual image for the reader.
(c)a simile creates a visual image for the reader.
(d)sensory details appeal to the reader’s sense of touch.

D) Sensory details appeal to the reader’s sense of touch.
Explanation: Imagery is a literary device that consists in detailed descriptions that help the author to evoke the reader's senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste or touch) and to create an image in the reader's mind. In the given excerpt from "The Story of My Life" by Helen Keller we can see an example of the use of imagery to appeal to the reader's sense of touch, in phrases like: "My fingers lingered almost unconsciously on the familiar leaves and blossoms" and "he afternoon sun penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned face."
