Setting the time and place of a literary piece are important elements of many stories, as well as setting the mood of the piece. choose a simple story, the ugly duckling. the setting (place) is at a riverside farm, the time is early morning to late afternoon. the weather was hot and sunny. this conveys the theme of the story since the setting is relevant to the characters of the story which were the ducks and the "ugly duckling" who was actually a swan.
