Three types of connectives include coordinating conjunctions , correlative conjunctions, and conjunctive adverbs.
Explanation:
Connectives are joining words that connect parts of the text like glue connects different parts of an object. Connectives can be conjunctions, prepositions, or adverbs. They cannot be nouns, so it would be incorrect to say that predicate nouns are a type of connective.
For example, coordinating conjunctions connect clauses within a sentence. But is one of the coordinating conjunctions and is a connective. In the sentence It was raining but it wasn’t cold it links clauses It was raining and It wasn't cold and expresses the relationship between information they relay.
Correlative conjunctions are conjunctions that work together to relate one part of a sentence to another. Examples of these conjunctions are pairs both-and, either-or, neither-nor, not-but, and not only-but also. For example: I want both the cake and the ice-cream.
Conjunctive adverbs connect two independent clauses or sentences. Instead of modifying verbs, they somewhat act like correlative conjunctions as they connect clauses and sentences. Examples of conjunctive adverbs are accordingly, also, besides, finally, however, instead, otherwise, then, etc. For example: John passed his driving test; therefore he is allowed to drive.
