In this poem, Emily Dickson illustrates the difference between being "Nobody" and "Somebody". Whithin this poem, Emily Dickson prefers being a "Nobody". In the poem she begins to say, "I'm Nobody! Who are you? Are you – Nobody – too?Then there’s a pair of us!" Dickson's voice within this part makes it sound as if she was excited to find a "Nobody" like her. She also continues to say, "How dreary – to be – Somebody! How public – like a Frog – To tell one's name – the livelong June – To an admiring Bog!" as if she's looking down or shaming the people who are "Somebody".
