Here are a few you can play around with
Explanation:
After her best friend dies in a drowning accident, Suzy is convinced that the true cause of the tragedy must have been a rare jellyfish sting--things don't just happen for no reason. Retreating into a silent world of imagination, she crafts a plan to prove her theory--even if it means traveling the globe, alone.
Middle school can be hard, especially if you’re struggling with the death of your best friend like Suzy Swanson was in the novel “The Thing About Jellyfish” by Ali Benjamin. Suzy was not the typical seventh-grader. When she saw her best friend turning into one of the pretty girls they’d always made fun of Suzy knew she had to send her friend a message. After all, she’d made a promise. After Franny died of drowning during a beach vacation Suzy grieved not only because she missed her friend but also because their relationship did not end the way it should have. In hopes of redeeming herself, Suzy set about to prove that her friend’s death had been caused by a jellyfish. Through the course of her journey, Suzy learned a good deal about jellyfish along with the finality of death.
After her best friend dies in a drowning accident, Suzy is convinced that the true cause of the tragedy was a rare jellyfish sting. Retreating into a silent world of imagination, she crafts a plan to prove her theory - even if it means traveling the globe, alone. Suzy's achingly heartfelt journey explores life, death, the astonishing wonder of the universe... and the potential for love and hope right next door.
At the beginning of the novel, Suzy is informed by her mother that Suzy’s best friend since kindergarten, Franny Jackson, has drowned in the ocean while on vacation. In a state of utter disbelief, Suzy cannot process this information or accept it as reality. She gets angry when her mother explains that sometimes things just happen. Suzy shuts everyone out and stops speaking unless she has to. Her denial comes from knowing that Franny was a great swimmer, as they had taken swimming lessons together since age five. When Suzy’s teacher Mrs. Turton takes the class on a field trip to the local aquarium, Suzy notices a sign about Irukandji jellyfish. She researches the rare jellyfish, learning that the sting from the Irukandji is so strong that it can, and has, killed many human beings in the past. Learning this, Suzy believes a lethal Irukandji jellyfish sting killed Franny.
