The issue of feeling oppressed by the society is most prominent. Doctor Jekyll is a respected man with many degrees who leads an excellent Victorian life. He does not feel good about himself, however, as he feels the urges to do numerous things that would make him lose his status in the society. The character Hyde is used by him to do whatever he feels like doing without any repercussions. What is great about that is that one day when he becomes Hyde completely and has to drink the potion to become Jekyll, we see that the potion actually shows who he really is, not the other way around. He is Hyde deep inside, but has to pretend to be Jekyll so as to keep being respected.
