we eat roughage not the hairs but if we talk about roughage which we obtain from vegetables it depends on vegetable consumption which contain fiber.

As food passes through the GI tract, or gastrointestinal tract, it mixes with your digestive "juices" (ew, im so sorry, i grossed myself out, gotta remember its just a natural part of life), causing large molecules of food to break down into smaller molecules. After this happens, the body absorbs these smaller molecules through the walls of the small intestine into the bloodstream, which then delivers them to the rest of the body.
