François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture, originally Toussaint de Bréda, born about 1743 near Cap-Français (now Cap-Haïtien), died in captivity on April 7, 1803 in La Cluse-et-Mijoux (Doubs), is a man French politics [1] of the Caribbean of Afro-Caribbean origin. descended from black slaves, he played a leading historical role as leader of the Haitian Revolution (1791-1802) and became one of the great figures of the anticolonialist, abolitionist and emancipation movements of blacks

The Haitian revolution is the first successful slave revolt in the modern world. These call for the equality of all free men, whatever their skin color. Their goal is to gradually bring about the abolition of slavery. April 4, 1792 is promulgated in the enthusiasm equal rights of the free and white. To enforce it, new civil commissars, including Léger-Félicité Sonthonax and Étienne Polverel, were sent to Santo Domingo, supported by four thousand National Guard volunteers.
