History
Citizenship is a common bond which brings together the people of Australia. It also brings rights and responsibilities. Citizens have additional rights beyond those offered to permanent residents of Australia, including the right to vote, the right to stand for public office, and the right to hold an Australian passport. But they also have additional responsibilities. For example, citizens are expected to defend Australia if needed.
