1. Bleeding Kansas: this occurred between 1854 to 1859. And it involves the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 which led to some abolitionist killing some pro-slavery settlers in the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre in Kansas and at the same time the sacking of Lawrence town, a town whose settlers favored antislavery
2. John Brown's raid: this occurred in 1859, in which abolitionists led by John Brown went about arming anti-slave personnel particularly the local slaves to revolts against their masters. This led to a series of killings of pro-slavery personnel in the south.
