Hello there!
Well, as you wrote here there is not a specific right answer. The assignment is just to develop a news based on these headlines. The one I am going to develop here is: Poseidon Pushes Tectonic Plates Apart, Creating an Ocean.
TECTONIC PLATES: THE EVOLUTION OF EARTH
Tectonic plates are pieces of Earth's crust and mantle referred to as the lithosphere. They consist of two types of material: oceanic and continental crust. Some of the most famous theory was the plate tectonics, which involved Poseidon -the king of the ocean- as the responsible of putting the plates apart which his kind of horses, according to the Greek mythology.
But, nowadays we can notice -based on scientific facts and even environmental facts- that the tectonic plates might have been moving because of the intense heat in the Earth's core that causes the lithosphere mantle moves, and that is causing this plate's separation. But, the plate tectonics theory had some suppositions right: the facts speak for it.
This correct data about the theory is not involved with mythology, it is the geological and natural explanation of how the plates interact with the Earth. The idea that Earth’s outer shell is broken up into giant pieces or plates, all gliding atop a kind of conveyor belt of hot, weak rock explains much about the structure and behavior of our home planet, as an example of this we have: the mountains and ocean canyons, the earthquakes and volcanoes, the very composition of the air we live with.
In this picture, you have the convergence under a volcanic area. There are the lithosphere and continental crust -which makes the plates- followed by the volcano. So, if the plates move it makes a reaction in the volcano.
Good luck!
