The progressive reforms of the period from 1900 to 1920 had an important effect on the number of women and children in the workforce. Before the Progressive Movement gained support, women and children worked in terrible conditions. They often earned very little, worked long hours and worked dangerous jobs. Moreover, they were paid less than men. The Progressive Movement addressed many of these issues. Thank to the policies that were implemented during these years, both employment conditions and wages improved significantly.
