There were concentration camps in all the territories under Nazi Germany, before and through the Second World War.
The first Nazi camps were erected in Germany rapidly following Hitler becoming Chancellor. Initially held around 45,000 prisoners, mostly political opponents, and union organizers, to torture them. Before the war, most prisoners were German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Jehovah's Witnesses, and homosexuals.
