Government Property: Fighting has destroyed more than just private homes but farms as well. During the war things like railroads, bridges and communication lines were a valuable asset to the enemy, making them strategic targets for the armies. Infrastructure in the south had been heavily damaged if not outright destroyed, making travel and communication difficult. Which had ramifications on many parts of life, not the least of which was the economy.
