The correct answer is C) by assassinating them.
The Eastern Cherokee responded to the signers of the Treaty of Echota after arriving in the Indian Territory by assassinating them.
The Treaty of Echota was signed on December 29, 1835. It ceded Cherokee land in exchange of $5 million. Major Ridge was the Cherokee leader who negotiated the treaty saying he represented the majority of the members of the tribe but that was not true. Of course, the Cherokee people rejected the treaty and were forced to move in 1838. In 1839, the Cherokee people assassinated Major Ridge and his son, in an act of retaliation.
