The ideas of John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and colonisit experience help shaped or influenced the philosophical premise of the American Revolution and the United States of America Constitution, which serves as the basis for the concept of popular sovereignty, that is, to serve the people is the main function of the government, such that, the function of public office holder or official is to represent the interest of their subject.
The US governmental system, was provided with a detailed plan by the US constitution, which try to balance public order with individual or people's liberty.
Explanation:
In 1776, the British colonies in North America were rebelling against British rule, after more than ten years of agitation over the issue of taxes and and governance.
Thus, Thomas Jefferson, who was inspired by the English philosopher John Locke, gave his submission of two ideas which influence the US constitution.
In Thomas Jefferson words;
"1. That all humans are born with “natural rights,” including the right to protect their lives, liberty, and property
2. That government is a “social contract” between people and their rulers, which can be dissolved if rulers fail to promote the people’s welfare"
In addition, in 1787 James Madison, a proponent of Central government, which believe in the unity of the country, was part of the 57 delegates, who wanted to ammend the Articles of Confederation, but ended up creating new constitution for the United States of America.
By 1791, he has introduced about 19 amendments of which 12 had been passed by good number of states to become part of constitution.
Some of these amendments includes:
1. Right as a citizen; such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of press.
2. Separation of Church and State (or Religion and Government)
Hence, all these influenced the US constitution, to help create a good constitution or constitutional document.
