Kshatriyas and caste system
Explanation:
According to the Manu Smriti, one of the ancient legal texts of India, the ancient India was divided into four basic caste systems or the varnas – Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras.
The Kshatriyas generally compromised the kings, rulers, warriors, administrators etc of the ruling and administration wing of the kingdom.
They were considered very high and placed second next to the Brahmins in the Varna system. They were exceptionally learned and skilled in weaponry, austerity, penance, administration, justice, ruling, moral conduct etc. They were bestowed with the duties of protecting and ruling their territory, delivering justice, participate in warfare, etc.
Most of the ancient rulers like the Mauryans, Nandas, Guptas, Cholas, etc were grouped under the Kshatriya Dharma.
