A control group in an experiment is very important. It is the group in an experiment that is separated from the rest of the experiment that’s being tested with the independent variable. It’s important for many reasons. The main reason is because using a control group, you can see the difference that an independent variable makes on the experiment. If we didn’t have a control group, you wouldn’t know how the group that is being tested is any different after the experiment than it was before. The control group gives you something to base it off. The control group is the group that doesn’t change. For example, in an experiment, if we want to test a plant fertilizer, we would have a control group and the group being tested. We would give the control group just water and no fertilizer. The other group that we are testing, we would give the plant fertilizer to. After a certain period of time, if the control group plants grow slower than or not as well as the group using the fertilizer, we know that the fertilizer works, if the opposite is true than the fertilizer doesn’t work.
Hope that helps u!
