Axum's location near Egypt led to a mostly polytheistic culture in which many deities can be traced back to the Egyptian religion. Axum's location along trade routes led to people of many different ethnicities and religions settling in the area. Axum's location near Arabia led to a culture in which the majority of the population was Muslim.
