Why did britain and france call of their invasion of egypt

Israeli, French and British troops invaded Egypt and in response the USSR threatened rocket attacks and offered to send troops to aid Egypt. The US responded with the threat of nuclear force against the USSR and pressured Israel, France and Britain to call off the invasion
